The importance of saying thank you.

As I sit here typing I wonder about many things in our modern day society. Having a simple face to face conversation, taking time for ourselves, and with the increase of technology we seem to have misplaced the art of saying thank you, come to mind. We have just been through one of the busiest retail seasons in the year. It amazes me how many people think it's ok to treat retail workers like they aren't people. It actually makes me sad for the workers because they are there doing a job to help people with their purchases. Yes they are doing their job which they get paid for, but those two small words - thank you, can make so much difference to their day.

Personally there is no place for being rude or abusive with retail (or any) workers. They have done nothing to deserve such treatment from members of the public, and I feel we can all make a small change to their day. Hence the importance of saying thank you. Thank you for doing your job, thank you for keeping going even if people aren't treating you with respect. Thank you for simply being there. Those two words cost us nothing to say and can make a difference to someones' day.
