Fresh Produce and Our Products
Todays' topic is around fresh produce. I often get asked questions about where our products are made and do I know what's in them All really great quest
Firstly I can honestly say our jams, pickles, relishes, chutneys, marmalades, sauces and more are made in house in our commercially approved kitchen. This means we have more control on quality of product and can do small runs of products.
Secondly we actually grow our own fruits and vegetables that are used in our products. We use organic growing methods and don't use pesticides, preferring companion planting over harsher commercial methods. A lot of the time our produce is still growing an hour before it is being used in our products. You can't get much fresher then that. We absolutely believe the freshness of the produce only adds to the freshness and quality of the product.
Picking fruits and vegetables when they are ripe and not over ripe does have an effect on the finished product. Under ripe and it often needs more sugar and doesn't taste quite ripe, over ripe and we need to add more pectin to our jams to aid in reaching the setting point. Honestly there is a lot of behind the scenes stuff that people don't get to see. It is more than putting fruit in a pot, and then having jam.
As you can probably tell from this blog we take the quality of our products seriously, right from the moment the fruit and vegetables are picked through to the end products we sell to you, our customers.
